I'm trying to erase my daughter's old iPad Mini, running on iOS 15.8.5. We have the passcode to access the iPad, but when I attempt to erase all content and settings, it prompts for a Screen Time passcode. This iPad has never had Screen Time set up, yet we're stuck. I've tried all the codes I can think of, and now we're locked out. Is there a glitch here, or what steps can I take to resolve this?

It sounds like someone must have set up Screen Time at some point. You can try going to Settings > Screen Time > Change Screen Time Passcode, and see if there's a "Forgot Passcode?" option. If so, it should prompt you for the Apple ID tied to it, so give your Apple ID a shot, or maybe your partner's if relevant. That might unlock the option to erase the iPad.
You'll definitely need to check if Screen Time was set up at one point. If you can't remember the passcode at all, using Recovery Mode on a computer is your best option. Just be careful because you also need to disable the Find My iPad feature before you can erase it!
Yeah, I agree with the other user. You might want to try using one of your old passcodes to see if it works. But honestly, if you really can't get in, your best bet is to put the iPad into Recovery Mode using a computer and restore it that way. It's a solid method to erase it completely.
