How to Exclude Internal Drives from the Safely Remove Hardware Menu?

I just tried to eject my external hard drive after using it, but I accidentally ejected one of my internal hard drives instead. Fortunately, it didn't cause any issues, but I had to restart my PC to get everything back to normal. I don't see any reason why I would ever want to eject my internal drives. Is there a way to prevent them from showing up in the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" menu?

It sounds like you're dealing with SATA drives. Typically, SATA-connected HDDs shouldn't show up in that menu. Check your settings in the Device Manager for any options related to "optimize for quick removal". You might have that inadvertently enabled, but I doubt you’d see that option available for your internal drives. It’s worth a look!

Ah, I had a similar issue! My SATA SSDs used to appear in the system tray on Windows 7, but they don’t show up in Windows 10 anymore. Have you noticed any changes after upgrading your system? Since your setup is quite new after all the upgrades, it could be related to how the drives were configured. To find out the type of HDDs you have, you can check in 'Device Manager' and look under the Disk drives section.
