I'm trying to help my friend with their HP Envy laptop. It powers on, but gets stuck on 'preparing auto repair' and doesn't go anywhere. We can't even access the recovery screen or safe mode to do a factory reset. I thought about creating a bootable Windows USB, but when I try to use it, the mouse doesn't work. I can navigate the recovery screen using the Enter key, but I'm worried this won't help since it's not booting from the main system. Any tips on how to fix this?

Make sure to change your BIOS settings to allow booting from USB. Once that’s set, try booting from the USB stick and reinstalling Windows.
If the laptop has a second USB port, you could try using an external mouse. I’ve noticed that sometimes the touchpad doesn’t respond during Windows setup. Alternatively, consider using the Tab key to navigate the menu if you can’t use the mouse.
