Hey everyone! I accidentally downloaded some malware from a website and it's really frustrating. I noticed there's an active screen sharing session happening, so I disconnected from the internet. I'm looking for advice on what steps I should take next. I need to send my computer in for repair later today, so I want to download my important files and reset the computer first, if possible. I ran Total Virus and it detected an issue but didn't clarify what it was. I'd appreciate any tips on identifying the malware or quickly resolving it without going to a technician unless absolutely necessary. Thanks!

You should definitely run a scan with Malwarebytes. It’s pretty effective at removing malware, but you’ll need to connect to the internet to download it first.
So you downloaded malware from that site? Have you tried using Windows Defender yet? It might help clean things up if you haven't already.
I didn’t use Defender, but I did check it with VirusTotal and it flagged a malicious threat.
Consider using an Ubuntu live USB with ClamAV to scan your system without booting into Windows. It can help detect and eliminate malware safely.
That sounds interesting! Do you have a tutorial for running it? I’m willing to give it a shot.
Yeah, I was hesitant to reconnect. Is there any way to download it safely without risking more issues?
