Hey everyone! I've got a remote user who was working fine on Windows 10, but now that they've upgraded to Windows 11, their SMB performance has really tanked. I tried looking into it using Wireshark, and I noticed that their Read Request Length is only at 32K. However, on other machines, it's showing values as high as 2M. Does anyone know how I can adjust settings or configurations to increase that Read Request Length? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

It sounds like the small Read Request Length could be a symptom rather than the root of the issue. Sometimes, those small requests are just metadata-related. Plus, if your setup isn’t using encryption for SMB, that could be a problem too. Trying to identify the actual issue may lead to better performance overall.
It's been a while, but does the receive window change when you disconnect the VPN and access a local share directly? Might help narrow down if the latency is tied to the network setup.
To give you some extra context, the maximum SMB2 Read Request Length can actually go up to 2,093,056 bytes. Since other clients are hitting that, it seems like there’s something on your setup that’s forcing it down to only 32K.
Are those other machines also running on Windows 11? If they are, it might be good to check if they are connecting to the same source as your remote user.
