Getting a job at a service desk is a great first step—especially at a Managed Service Provider. It’s all about learning on the job, and you can get your hands on various issues even with limited experience. You’ll tackle real problems and learn about user interactions that are invaluable as you progress. Plus, working in service desk gives you the foundational knowledge you need for the junior sysadmin role later on.

You could also consider starting in software support; it’s a logical position where you get to learn a lot. There might be job opportunities that don't require prior experience or certifications, but you'll gain valuable practical knowledge that can help you move up into a sysadmin role later.

In my country, it took me three years of apprenticeship to become a junior admin, and honestly, I wouldn’t have been trusted with systems without a certificate. While homelabbing is great, hands-on experience in real environments is what counts. People tend to want practical skills over theoretical ones, especially for production systems.
