I'm looking for effective ways to offer remote tech support to my grandparents living in Florida while I'm in the northeast. They frequently encounter issues with their computer, and while we've tried using Geek Squad, they often just wipe their system without resolving the real problems. Currently, we're using Google Remote Desktop, but it requires too much input from them. Ideally, I need a solution that allows me to access their computer without them having to enter codes or do much at all. It would be really helpful if the solution could also allow me to view any admin prompts that pop up during installations or uninstallations. I have Tailscale configured for my devices, so would upgrading them to Windows 11 Pro so I could set up remote desktop with something like Rustdesk or SSH be a good idea? Any suggestions or alternatives would be greatly appreciated!

Check out the GL.iNet Comet Pro, which is designed for remote access setups. It could leverage Tailscale, making it easier for you to assist them while keeping things secure. It’s worth considering!
Setting up remote access without user intervention sounds risky, especially if it goes over the internet. You wouldn’t want any unauthorized access to their system. Have you thought about options like limiting access to just local network connections? That could improve security. It’s important to stay cautious when implementing remote desktop setups.
Anydesk might be your safest bet. You can set it up with a strong password and make sure only specified devices can access their computer. This way, you can minimize risks while still providing the support they need.
If you're already on Tailscale, that’s great! Upgrading to Windows 11 Pro could work, and it would definitely allow you to set up Remote Desktop. For simpler access, tools like VNC are also good options, but they have their quirks. Remember, SSH might restrict GUI usage which could be complicated for them, especially if they need help navigating their screens.

Yeah, that’s why I’m hesitant about tools like TeamViewer. I was thinking that using Tailscale could add an extra layer of safety. It’s just tough because I want it to be as seamless as possible for them.
