I'm really freaking out here. I was using WhatsApp on my new Android phone in Companion Mode since my old phone broke down. I thought it was working fine, but yesterday I accidentally logged out. When I logged back in, I noticed that only my most recent media was showing up. I initially wasn't too worried because I had my old photos in the WhatsApp image folder. But to my horror, that folder disappeared! I even saw some images briefly in Google Photos, but now those are disappearing too. I checked the Google Photos Trash, and it's empty. My WhatsApp Google Drive backup should be on, and I can still see some media on WhatsApp Web. Is there any way I can recover my lost images? I'm really concerned since these photos are super important to me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, it sounds like those images might be permanently deleted. I had a similar situation where WhatsApp logged me out of Companion Mode due to a glitch, and it caused the deletion of some media on my main account too. Make sure to always set weekly backups in WhatsApp settings, and you should enable the WhatsApp folder backup in Google Photos as well. Also, avoid restarting your device after such incidents, as it can lead to more data loss. If you want to try to retrieve the images, I recommend the DiskDigger app from the Play Store; it’s worked for me in the past. And don’t forget to back up any existing WhatsApp data into a different folder on your phone soon to avoid complete loss!
