Hey everyone! I was trying to replace the monitor cover on my girlfriend's laptop, which seemed like an easy task. However, when I put everything back together and powered it on to test the camera, it seemed like there was no camera detected at all. I then noticed a burning smell and quickly turned off the laptop. After opening it up again, I realized I likely exposed some wires while trying to feed them back in. Now, the camera is broken. So my question is: is it safe to just cut the wire and tape it up, or do I need to go deeper into the laptop to fully uninstall the camera from the motherboard?

If I were you, I'd go ahead and remove the broken camera completely. It's better to deal with it now than have to worry about any future issues.
I’d recommend just unplugging the camera from the motherboard. That way, you won't have to worry about any power issues or burning parts anymore. Once that's done, maybe consider getting a USB webcam instead—much easier solution!

Just FYI, the camera is located at the top of the screen. Have you had experience working on laptops before?
