I've got my Remote Desktop Services (RDS) setup and running, and I can connect to the server via RDP. Now, I'm trying to configure my thin client so that it boots directly into the RDP session, making it feel like a regular desktop. I'm struggling to find any detailed guides on this process, except for the usual loading the thin client and then connecting via remote desktop. I'm ultimately aiming to transition to a cloud-based VDI in Azure, but for now, I just want to experiment with it on-prem. I suspect the setup will be similar, likely involving some kind of boot WIM file pointed to either on-prem or Azure resources. Any tips on how to get this done would be greatly appreciated!

Which thin client are you using? I’ve actually shared a project called User Friendly ThinClient that can turn regular PCs into thin clients. It’s free and open source! Setting it up is simple, and it should work well if you're looking for an inexpensive option. Each thin client model has its quirks, so setup can vary. Just to note, if you're dealing with Azure VDI, you’ll need a client that supports that, since that setup can be quite different from standard RDP.
You’ll want to tweak the configuration file of your thin client. I used Wyze Manager for a similar setup, and it worked great! This tool can help you customize the boot process so it goes straight to the RDP session without extra menus.
I will check out Wyze Manager! Thank you!
The way you set everything up largely depends on the model of the thin client and its operating system. Different manufacturers have their own methods of configuration, so it’s essential to refer to the specific documentation for your device.
Dell Wyze is what I was playing around with.
I would love to see that. Care to share a link?
