How to Verify a Used GPU Purchase?

I'm thinking about buying a used 4070 Super for my first PC build and found one for about £400 on eBay. I'm not sure how to assess the seller's trustworthiness and what steps I should take to verify that I'm getting the right GPU. Once I have it, how can I stress test it to ensure it's in good condition and performing as it should? Any tips would be appreciated!

To make sure the used GPU is legit, get GPU-Z to verify that it's actually a 4070 Super. That program will give you the GPU name, memory type, and specs you need to confirm everything matches NVIDIA's official info. For stress testing, try using FurMark or 3DMark to check if the card can handle heavy loads without crashing or overheating. If the temps and performance are good, you're probably okay!

How can I check how much load it can handle without crashing, and what's normal temp for it?

When buying on eBay, first check the seller's history and look at sold items to make sure the pricing seems reasonable for what they're offering. If the account hasn't been active recently or they’re suddenly selling multiple high-end GPUs, that's a warning sign. When you get the package, check for any signs of damage or if it has been repackaged. It’s a good idea to open it at a package shop to ensure nothing was stolen. Also, verify that the GPU matches the listing and hasn't been tampered with—checking warranty seals is key. Once you get it set up, use HWInfo for monitoring temperatures and GPU-Z for verification. Run a few benchmarks on 3DMark and compare your results with others to see if everything is in line!
