I'm looking to upgrade my PC's memory and currently have a configuration of 2x16 GB DDR5 RAM running in dual channel. I'm planning to add an extra 1x16 GB stick to the third slot on my motherboard. I'm curious about how this change will impact my gaming and general performance. Will my system switch to single channel for all the RAM, or will the original 2x16 GB continue to function in dual channel while the additional 1x16 GB works in single channel? Thanks for any insights!

In theory, the two original sticks could still operate in dual channel mode, but once you use more than 32 GB, you'll lose some of those dual channel benefits. In practice, you might not notice a huge difference depending on what you're running, since apps often use whatever RAM is available rather than what's strictly necessary.
