I found a suspicious app on my phone—what should I do?

I just noticed an app called mobile.child.helper 2021 on my phone that has all permissions granted. It's been accessing my camera and microphone, and a Malwarebytes scan identified it as a threat. I'm really concerned and want to know if this is spyware or if it's a feature for another app that I have, like a call recorder. Also, I've tried to uninstall the app, but when I go to the settings, it asks me for an app password. What can I do?

If this app is indeed on your mom's phone and not yours, that's a serious privacy concern. It's worth discussing with her about reporting it to the authorities if you're being watched without consent. It's really important to maintain your safety and privacy!

If you’re unable to uninstall it due to the app password, your best bet might be to check if there's a way to reset that password through your phone's settings. In extreme cases, you might need to consider a factory reset if you can't get rid of it. Additionally, do not use the phone until you find a solution, since it's accessing sensitive parts of your device.

Given that the app has access to your camera and microphone without your knowledge, it's likely some sort of monitoring software—definitely sounds suspicious for spyware! Apps like this usually make it clear during installation, so you should check how it ended up on your device. Besides, very few legitimate apps should have all permissions unless it's absolutely necessary.
