Is 100°C Too Hot for My i5 12400F During Gaming?

I recently built a new PC with an Intel i5 12400F, and I've noticed that while downloading Fortnite and playing BeamNG, my CPU temperatures shot up to 100 degrees Celsius according to Core Temp. I'm concerned it might be due to the stock cooler possibly being improperly installed. Should I worry about this temperature, and do I need to replace the thermal paste? The CPU idles around 30-35 degrees Celsius.

If you believe the cooler was mounted incorrectly, make sure to test it again after fixing it. Just avoid leaving it at those high temps for too long, that can cause damage in the long run. Don't forget to check your BIOS settings as well, updating them can sometimes help with temperature management.

Your idle temps sound good, but running BeamNG can definitely stress the CPU since it's pretty intensive. The stock cooler should manage the i5 12400F alright, but check if your case has sufficient airflow. If it's cramped, that could be part of the problem.

100°C is on the high side for sure! If you took the cooler off for any reason, it's best to replace the thermal paste just to ensure optimal cooling. Even if the paste looks fresh, it's a good habit to replace it whenever you mess with the cooler.

Consider getting a better cooler if your stock one isn't cutting it. Something like the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120SE is a great budget-friendly option, and adjusting the fan curves can really help manage the temperatures better.
