Is 1440p or 4K better for a 27-inch monitor?

I'm considering a new monitor for gaming, as I'll be moving from a 55-inch LG CX to a desk setup. I'll be using it for around 80% gaming and 20% for watching TV and movies. My current setup includes a 4080 super and an i7-12700k, so I'm looking for something that's high refresh rate and within a budget of £800 (about $1000). The main question is whether a 27-inch 4K is significantly sharper than 1440p, considering that running 4K will be more demanding. Also, I've had a great experience with my current OLED TV, but I'm unsure whether it's worth the extra money for an OLED monitor compared to IPS/VA/Mini LED options. Appreciate any advice!

Monitor prices have dropped a lot recently, so I say go for the 4K if you can. Just make sure you're not compromising on refresh rates or pixel response times for the price. If you mainly game and watch media, 1440p works great. But if you're doing a lot of text work, the crispness of 4K becomes a big plus. You won't get the same detail for small text at 1440p.

I transitioned from 4K to 1440p, and honestly, I don't feel like I'm missing out. The higher frame rates are awesome and make for a much smoother experience in gaming!

I recently switched from 1440p to 4K on a 27" display, and the difference in pixel density is impressive. It really improves the clarity, especially for detailed visuals and graphics!

I had to make a similar choice and ended up sticking with 1440p. I got an OLED 1440p 240Hz for about €470 and it's fantastic! The frame rates are much higher, especially in games like DOOM Eternal where I hit 240 fps on max settings. The difference in performance swayed me away from 4K since I struggled to maintain 60 fps on that resolution in some games.

I just got a Dell 27" 4K monitor, and it was definitely worth it, especially if you can find one priced between $800-900. But I think the higher-end models aren't worth the extra cash unless you really need that top-tier quality.
