Is 50% RAM Usage Normal for a New Laptop with 16GB?

I recently purchased an ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED with 16GB of RAM, and I noticed that my base RAM usage is around 46% without any applications open, not even a browser. Also, the fan runs pretty loudly even when I'm just using it for basic tasks. Is this kind of RAM usage normal for a new laptop, or should I be looking into ways to fix it? So far, the only software I installed is the Brave browser.

Yeah, that RAM usage does sound normal. Windows 11 can be a bit resource-heavy, and some background processes can use quite a bit of memory, even if you aren’t actively running many apps.

Totally normal! Make sure you check for any Asus bloatware. You might want to uninstall stuff like OneDrive or Xbox Live if you're not using them. That could help lower your idle RAM usage significantly.

It really depends on what's running in the background. For instance, my laptop with 32GB uses around 8GB just for Windows. Also, some models, especially gaming laptops, come with a lot of bloatware installed that can eat up RAM. You should check the startup apps in the task manager and remove anything unnecessary.

If you're using Google Chrome, that can really spike RAM usage too. Chrome is known for being a memory hog. Even with a few tabs open, it can consume a lot of resources.

If the fan noise bothers you, consider uninstalling the MyAsus app. After you do, install Ghelper and use it to turn off unnecessary Asus services. This should help quiet things down and maybe even alleviate some of that RAM usage.
