I'm considering using my laptop as a second monitor. It supports up to 165Hz, but I hardly ever use it. Would it be fine to set it at 60Hz?

If you're getting the monitor for free or under £50, then sure, stick with 60Hz. But if you're buying one, look for at least 100Hz—they're pretty affordable these days, and you can find decent IPS panels for around £70. 100Hz is becoming the new standard!

If you're into gaming, you might want to go with a higher refresh rate, but otherwise, 60Hz should do the trick for normal use.

You can totally keep it at 60Hz if that's what you prefer. It won't damage anything by running at a lower refresh rate.

Yeah, 60Hz is perfectly fine! It used to be the standard for monitors just a few years back.
