Is A 3-Month Contract With TEKsystems Worth It?

I'm considering a 3-month contract with TEKsystems, but they stated there's no guarantee for further placement afterwards—just that they'll "do their best." Is this typical in contracting, and can I trust them? I'd love to hear about your experiences or any advice you might have!

I did a 6-month stint with them, and while I ended up getting placed, the pay was lackluster. I should've negotiated better because my colleague with similar experience was paid significantly more. Also, their benefits were pretty poor and pricey. Just a heads-up, keep looking for new jobs throughout your contract period—don't put all your eggs in one basket!

Contracting agencies usually have high insurance rates. It's pretty common.

Did you manage to negotiate your rate after accepting the offer? I'm curious how that works.

I worked with them years ago and had a decent experience, but I wouldn’t put too much faith in them for securing you another role afterwards. Get the experience and stay proactive in job hunting the whole time. They can be a good stepping stone, but don’t expect them to guarantee you anything beyond that.

What kind of experience did you have that made it decent? Curious if it’s still relevant today.

Definitely agree on staying proactive! That's key in this industry.

Honestly, trust is tricky here. TEKsystems primarily sees you as a fill-in for their client's needs, so if they like you and the client is happy, you might stay longer. Just be prepared for the possibility that it might not work out beyond those three months.

That's just how contract roles go! Do a good job, and your chances improve.

Right? It's just standard contract work. Sometimes you get a direct hire, but don’t count on it!

I've had a mix of experiences with them. They secured me a few contracts, but they’re notorious for being stingy with expense reimbursements. I had to fight to get reimbursed for approved expenses, which was frustrating. If you’re unemployed, the three months could be a good placeholder while you search for something permanent.

Did you feel like they were heavily involved in finding you new opportunities, or was it mostly on you?

That's wild! I wonder how they handle expenses now. Sounds like a hassle.
