Hey everyone! I recently bought a new 9070XT GPU, but I mistakenly thought I had a more powerful PSU than I do. Right now, I'm using a 650W PSU with my Ryzen 5 CPU (which I plan to upgrade soon). I've heard the 9070XT requires around 700W or 800W, but I wanted to get your insights. My PC is currently running fine, and I've played games like Baldurs Gate 3 and Helldivers 2 without any issues. Is there a risk in using a GPU that requires more power than my PSU can provide? I've read that the worst case is the PC could shut down if it doesn't have enough power. Any advice would be helpful!

Your 650W PSU is likely fine! The 9070XT pulls between 310-360W, and with your Ryzen 5 using under 100W, you should be in the clear as long as your PSU is good quality. I can't say for sure without knowing the exact model of your PSU, though! It sounds like you have a decent setup going on.
Honestly, you might be pushing it. It seems like the GPU and PSU can work together for now, but upgrading your PSU to at least 850W would be the safest route if you're really looking to future-proof your system!
850W sounds like overkill to me, but if it helps, why not?
If you notice your PC shutting off, that's a sign that your PSU isn't cutting it. The recommended wattage usually has some headroom for safety, but it’s always better to play it safe and upgrade if you can!
I've got a similar setup with a 9070XT and a Ryzen 5800X3D, and my total wattage at full load is only around 400-450W. If your PSU is a gold or platinum rated one, you're good! But if you'd rather not risk it, a 750W PSU might give you extra peace of mind.
If you want to stick with the 650W, consider undervolting the GPU for safety, but I’d recommend upgrading to at least a 750W PSU in the long run to avoid any potential issues down the line!
Good point! I'll think about the undervolt as a temporary solution.
Thanks for the reassurance! I have an EVGA 650 B5, 80+ Bronze which I've had since 2021.
