I currently have a Ryzen 5 2600, GTX 1060 6GB, 16GB of DDR4, about 477GB of storage, and an ASRock B450M Pro4 R2.0 motherboard in a DeepCool Macube 110 case. After several years, I want to play more demanding games such as Cyberpunk 2077. I'm considering upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, a Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB, and a 1TB SSD. I'm also wondering whether it would make more sense to save longer and build a new AM5 system instead. My target resolution is 1080p, and I'm flexible on budget but would appreciate recommendations near the cost of the proposed upgrade. Is the 5800X3D still a good value for this system and for the next few years?

For 1080p, that combination would be a major improvement over your current PC and should handle Cyberpunk 2077 much more comfortably. The 5800X3D is still a strong gaming processor, especially if you can install it on your existing B450 board with a BIOS update. Before buying, check the motherboard’s supported CPU list, update the BIOS while the Ryzen 5 2600 is still installed, and make sure your power supply has enough capacity for the new graphics card. The RX 9060 XT 16GB should be a sensible match for 1080p, though a faster card would make more sense if you later move to 1440p. You can also reuse your DDR4 memory, case, and motherboard, making this much cheaper than moving to AM5. AM5 gives you a newer platform and a future CPU upgrade path, but it requires a new motherboard and DDR5 memory, so it is better suited to a full rebuild than a budget-conscious upgrade.
I’m not planning to go above 1080p for now, and the higher-end graphics cards are outside my budget. I’m tempted to save for a complete AM5 build, but newer hardware will always come out. For Cyberpunk at 1080p, do you think buying the 5800X3D now is still worthwhile?
