Is a used 2070 Super for $150 a smart buy in 2025?

Hey everyone! I've got a friend offering me a used 2070 Super for $150, and I'm considering it. They take good care of their stuff, so I'm confident it'll be in decent shape. My current setup is a 1060 6GB paired with an i7 6700K, which works okay for games like older PS4 titles. However, newer games such as Helldivers 2 and Elden Ring are a bit too much for my system.

I planned to build a whole new PC with a 5070, but I don't have a budget for that yet, especially since my finances are tight. By the time I save up, I might even be looking at getting a 6070. So, I'm thinking the 2070 Super could be a good temporary upgrade. I'd also consider upgrading my motherboard and CPU to a 5600X. My concern is whether it's worth spending money on these upgrades now or just saving for a new build or a budget GPU. I want to play games like Escape From Tarkov, Warhammer 40K Darktide, and Cyperpunk 2077 at 1080p with at least 60fps — 100fps would be a bonus! Any thoughts would be super helpful, thanks for reading!

Definitely go for it! The 2070 Super offers a great performance boost for the price. Just be aware that some demanding titles might force you to lower settings. As for your CPU, looking at an AM5 7600X might be a better long-term plan when you have the cash. You could still resell the 2070 Super later for at least $100 if you need to.

This sounds like a good plan!

Honestly, for $150, that's a pretty solid upgrade from the 1060. The performance jump will be noticeable, and you can easily use the 2070 Super until you’re ready to build your new rig. If your friend took care of it, it should last a while. It's all about gradual upgrades!
