I've noticed that a lot of vendors are marketing their IT asset management (ITAM) tools by throwing around terms like 'AI-powered discovery' and 'AI license optimization.' I'm curious if anyone here has actually seen AI make a real difference in asset management or IT processes, or if it's just hot air. What practical use cases have you experienced?

In our organization, we aren't leveraging all the fancy AI features since we don’t subscribe to the top tier, but we've got scripting AI that helps automate tasks and alerts. However, I often find that what vendors call AI is just glorified scripting.

From my experience, AI hasn’t done much for me as a sysadmin. However, for my users, tools like Copilot have improved their workflow significantly. The meeting summaries and search features reduce the number of tickets we get, which is a win in my book!

For me, AI has mostly helped with summarizing and automating repetitive tasks. Turning meeting notes into ticket summaries or creating knowledgebase articles is a real time saver. But beyond that, not much else has improved.
