I'm looking to upgrade my power supply since I'm building a new system around an RTX 5080 and a Ryzen 9800X3D on an X870 motherboard. I'm planning to do some overclocking with the 5080, but I'm not sure if an 850W PSU would be sufficient for this setup. I've seen mixed info online, and since I'm relatively new to overclocking, I'm unsure how much it might increase the power draw. Anyone have thoughts on whether 850W would handle this?

If you want, you could go for a 1000W PSU instead. It's only a slight increase in price, and it's better to have that extra headroom, especially if you're spending a lot on your build. A stable power supply can really help in the long run!
An 850W PSU should definitely be enough for your setup. When overclocking the 5080, the performance gains might not be huge, but it will bump up the power consumption and heat. If you're curious to test the waters, go ahead and see how it performs for you, but I doubt you'll push past that 850W under normal use. Also, undervolting and mild overclocking is a trick many recommend to improve efficiency without as much hassle!
Thanks! That's reassuring to know. I just want to avoid any power issues, especially since I'm looking at getting an inverter due to power outages.
An ATX 3.1 850W should be plenty for your build. Just keep in mind that overclocking can increase power consumption significantly. If you're just trying to squeeze out a little more performance, it might not be worth the heat and extra power draw. Consider tools like MSI Afterburner for tuning things down if you're into that.
Good to know! I've used Throttlestop before, but I'm open to giving Afterburner a shot.
Haha, yeah that makes sense! I checked and with current prices, the 1000W isn't bad for my budget, especially considering I'll be using an OLED monitor too!
