Hey everyone, I'm gearing up for a proof of concept (POC) with AWS Workspaces in a couple of weeks and I'm wondering if it's a feasible solution for replacing the laptops of about 50 office workers in sales, marketing, and administration roles. With COVID, our team has been working from home, and we've phased out our physical offices. Our current laptops are reaching the end of their lifecycle as Windows 10 approaches retirement, but there's no release date for Windows 12 yet. We have most of our services in the cloud such as O365, CRM, VoIP, etc., so ideally, as long as my team has a decent internet connection they can work just fine. Given our situation, should I seriously consider AWS Workspaces for DaaS, or just go ahead and purchase new laptops?

You’ve got to think about how many employees have their own machines. If you’re thinking of AWS Workspaces, you’d ideally want users connecting with either their own laptops or something you provide. But if a lot of your folks don’t have personal computers, forcing them to buy new ones could backfire. You might want to check how many people can really adapt to this change. Security is another aspect to consider—just because you’re in the cloud, doesn’t mean you can drop the ball on endpoint security.

I see your point, but the question is really about weighing DaaS against buying new hardware. At this stage, what's your recommendation?
