I recently downloaded BatteryCare from its official site, but when I tried to open the downloaded file, Windows Defender went haywire and flagged it as a threat. I panicked and deleted it immediately. A friend told me it's safe, but I'm looking for more opinions. Has anyone else experienced this? I did a full scan with Windows Defender and Malwarebytes afterward and found nothing, but I'd love to hear what others think about this.

When Windows Defender acts up like that, it can be alarming. Can you give more details about what exactly it flagged? Sometimes, it may just be overly cautious with certain files.
I ran the installer through VirusTotal and noticed that some scanners flag it as potentially malicious mainly because it might install the Adaware Web Companion software. While it has some flags, overall, it seems okay to install if you're careful about what options you select during the setup.
Thanks for checking that out!
It kept flagging the setupbatterycare.exe constantly until I managed to remove it.
