Is it normal for my CPU to reach 80°C when starting games?

I recently upgraded my CPU to an AMD Ryzen 9 5900X and I'm noticing it's hitting 80°C when I boot up games. I used to have an AMD Ryzen 5 3600, which never exceeded the 70°C mark. I'm a bit paranoid because I had a laptop that ran at 80-90°C constantly, and I'm worried about this new setup. Is this temperature normal? Here are my specs:

- **Processor:** AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
- **Motherboard:** ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING
- **RAM:** 32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3200MHz
- **Graphics Card:** AMD 9070
- **SSD:** 1TB CORSAIR FORCE MP600 NVMe PCIe
- **Storage Drive:** 2TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200RPM
- **Power Supply:** CORSAIR RM850
- **Cooling:** PCS FrostFlow 100 RGB V3 Series CPU Cooler

It's pretty normal for new Ryzen CPUs to run a bit warmer. When you're starting up a game, your CPU is pushing a lot of performance which can lead to higher temps. What’s the highest temp you notice while gaming?

It hit 80°C in Monster Hunter and mid 70s in Fortnite.

Honestly, that cooler seems to be the bottleneck. I switched from a subpar cooler to a Peerless Assassin and dropped my 5800X3D temps significantly, from 94°C to about 50-60°C. It was a budget buy at around £30. That said, 80°C isn't catastrophic either. If you're feeling adventurous, upgrading your cooler might give you better temps!

That sounds promising! I might look into a cooler upgrade.

A 5900X will naturally draw more power than a 3600, leading to increased heat. But as long as you’re not facing performance issues, 80°C is within the safe limit since the max temp is around 95°C.

Yeah, new Ryzen processors can get hot, especially under load. If you're looking for cooler temps, you might consider upgrading to a larger AIO cooler, but honestly, if everything runs fine, it should be okay. Just keep an eye on it!
