Is It Okay to Leave NVMe SSDs Idle for Months?

Hey folks, I have a situation here. My motherboard is under RMA and it could take a month or two before I get it back. In the meantime, I've removed my FireCuda 530 and Samsung 980 Pro NVMe SSDs and wrapped them up safely. Now I'm worried—can these SSDs remain out of the system for that long without any issues? Will they lose data or get damaged just sitting around? Should I take any extra steps to protect them while they're idle? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Nah, it's really not a problem if they're just sitting for a month or two. They're built to last without constant use.

You don't need to worry at all! Those SSDs can stay idle for that kind of time without any issues. Mechanical drives? Sure, they can sit around in warehouses for years, but SSDs are solid state and designed to handle periods of inactivity much better.

Right, but it's worth noting that, unlike HDDs, SSDs might lose data after a year or so without power. It's not a big deal for you given your circumstances, though.

Absolutely no issue! The write wear for consumer SSDs is designed for at least a year of offline retention. As long as you still have a good chunk of flash life left, which you likely do, those drives should last for years without any problems.
