I'm planning to build my first PC on an anti-static mat. I wonder if wearing headphones while I'm doing it is safe. Am I increasing the risk of damaging components in any way?

You should be all good with the headphones. The risk of static is something to think about, but since you're on an anti-static mat, you're better protected than most of us. Just focus on your build, and don’t stress it too much.

Glad to hear that! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything important.

No worries at all! You can wear whatever you like while building your PC. I've built systems on all sorts of surfaces, including carpet, and nothing bad happened. Unless you're in a house made of balloons, you should be totally fine!

LOL, just avoid wearing wool socks on shag carpet and you’ll be good!

You're not in danger unless you've got baboons in the house!

You can wear headphones, but it might get a bit cumbersome. You could miss important sounds or warnings while you're moving the case around, so just keep that in mind!

Why do you want to wear headphones while building? It’s usually better to concentrate fully on the task at hand without distractions.

It sounds like this is your first build, so I’d recommend keeping your attention on that. If you want to listen to a tutorial while building, that’s fine, but headphones might just distract you when you’re trying to focus on the task at hand.

Yeah, I'm just trying to follow a tutorial and maybe stream it to a buddy for fun!

I built my PC on a coffee table with no anti-static protection at all, and everything went smoothly. You'll be fine wearing headphones—just focus on what you’re doing!
