Is it Possible to Build a Fast PC for Under $600 That Outperforms the $499 Mac Mini?

I've been reading about the $499 Mac Mini and its impressive performance, especially with the M4 chip that really shines in single-core speeds and is competitive in multi-core benchmarks against higher-end PCs. For someone like me, who doesn't have a strong preference for Windows or Linux and just wants a smooth experience with cloud-based work, I'm curious if I could build a Windows PC between $500 and $600 that would outperform the Mac Mini in raw speed and responsiveness when switching between apps and tabs. I don't care much about storage upgrades or RAM limitations, as I've managed well with 8GB in my old M1 Mac Mini. My main tasks involve project management, Zoom meetings, browsing, and some light video editing. So, I'm really focused on whether the Mac Mini is tough to beat at this price point or if that claim is overblown. Any suggestions for a PC build that would deliver quick performance within the same budget?

Honestly, for your use case, it sounds like the M4 is really hard to beat at that price. With Apple’s closed ecosystem, they maximize performance on their hardware pretty effectively. The efficiency of their ARM-based chips really sets them apart, especially for tasks like yours.

Thanks! This info is helpful. Do you think I should wait for the upcoming Mac Mini M5 in June, or would the extra processing power not be worth it for what I need?
