Hey everyone! I have some basic knowledge about PCs, and I'm looking for your advice. Currently, I'm using an Intel Core i3-10105F CPU with a GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card, 32GB of memory, and a solid storage drive. I'm interested in upgrading my CPU to either the AMD Ryzen 5 3600X or the Intel Core i5-10600K, but I want to know if it's feasible to do this without having to swap out my motherboard. Are these CPUs compatible with my setup? What's the process like for changing the CPU? Thanks in advance!

You can upgrade to the i5-10600K without changing your motherboard since it fits the same socket as your current i3. Just double-check that your motherboard supports it. The AMD chip isn’t an option without a new motherboard, though.
You'll definitely need to switch motherboards if you're going from Intel to AMD. For Intel upgrades, just check your motherboard model to see if it can support the new CPU, like the i5-10600K.
I appreciate the advice! I'll look up my motherboard model.
Your CPU socket is LGA1200, so any compatible LGA1200 CPU will fit, but the board’s BIOS must support it. Also, if you're planning to upgrade, consider updating the BIOS first as a precaution before making changes.
I have an ASRock B460 STEEL LEGEND motherboard. Should I focus on the BIOS update after the new CPU install?
Yeah, replace Intel with AMD will mean a motherboard change. The 10600K should work with your current setup, but make sure to check compatibility. Oh, and don’t forget to reapply thermal paste when you install the new CPU – it's a must!
Got it! I know how to handle thermal paste, but I'll check on the cooler too.
Thanks for clarifying that!
