Is It Safe to Replace a PSU Fan Myself?

I've been dealing with a rattling noise from the fan in my Falcon FGC-750W power supply for almost two years, and I've finally decided it's time to do something about it. I know that opening a power supply can be quite risky due to the stored energy inside, but is there a safe way to change the fan after properly discharging it? I'm also curious about the best methods to safely discharge a PC in general, just in case I ever need to do it. I would prefer to handle this myself instead of taking it to a service center.

Honestly, opening a PSU can be extremely dangerous, so I would strongly recommend against attempting it. Most replies here seem to agree that it's not worth the risk, especially since you can buy a new power supply for a reasonable price. Safety first! If you really want to proceed, consider getting help from someone with experience rather than doing it on your own.

Totally agree! If you’re not super confident in working with electronics, just buying a new one will save you a lot of trouble and potential harm.

I've done it a few times without any issues, but there are definitely risks involved. If you feel uncertain, it might not be worth trying to fix the fan yourself. Usually, a rattling might just be a loose fan, and tightening screws could be enough without opening it up. Still, if that fails, replacing the whole unit is usually easier and safer!

Just a friendly warning: messing with a PSU if you're not experienced can lead to fatal accidents. So unless you have a solid understanding of electronics, it's best to just buy a new PSU and save yourself the headache.

Absolutely, just don’t do it yourself! I've seen people get injured doing repairs like this. Your safety is way more important than saving a few bucks. Take it to a shop instead!

If you're really determined to try it, make sure you take proper precautions. Unplug your PC and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds to discharge it. When opening the PSU, avoid touching any internal components—stick to the fan area and use non-metal tools to prevent any accidents. But honestly, it might be smarter to just swap out the whole PSU instead!

That’s good advice! Just remember, even minor mistakes can have serious consequences. Proceed with caution!
