Is It Safe to Turn On My PC After Smoke in the Kitchen?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a situation here. Something in my oven started smoking while I was cooking, prompting the smoke detectors to go off. I managed to ventilate the entire house thoroughly, and thankfully, there was no fire or damage, and the smell has vanished completely. My office, which is about 70 feet away from the kitchen, did get some smoke in it, and the smoke detector there also went off. I've aired out the office with a window open and a fan running for a while.

Now, I'm concerned about my PC. Should I go ahead and turn it on, or is it better to clean it out first? If cleaning is needed, how should I do that?

Definitely open up the case and look for any signs of smoke residue. If everything looks clean and there's no strong smell, it should be safe to use it, especially since it was off during the incident.

It’s all good as long as nothing inside your PC looks dirty. Just give it a quick check before booting up!

Was your PC on or the fans running when the smoke started? If you’ve got good filters and weren’t operating it, I wouldn't worry too much about smoke getting inside.

Nope, nothing in my office was on at that time. It's an Alienware, so I know their cases ventilate well.

You're probably in the clear! If there's no visible soot on your components, your PC is likely just fine. Don't stress too much about it.
