Is it Safe to Use an Old 20-Year-Old CD Drive in My New PC?

I recently built a new PC, and I remembered there's an old CD drive from my family's computer that I found in the attic. Before I plug it in, I'm worried that using this nearly 20-year-old drive might somehow damage my new system. The CD drive came from an HP Pavilion Slimline s3521p, which has all stock parts. My dad mentioned it stopped working a long time ago due to viruses and hasn't been powered on since. I've mucked around with it a bit, and the power supply seems completely dead, but I'm concerned about any potential risks or downsides to using this old drive. Can anyone provide any thoughts on this?

As long as the drive is SATA, it should either work or not work at all. It's not going to brick your PC! But seriously, what do you need a CD drive for in this day and age?
