I've been using my HP laptop for around 4 years now, and recently, I've noticed the battery draining really quickly. Today, it got stuck at 0% and won't charge anymore; it shuts off as soon as I unplug it. I'm pretty sure the battery is dead, but I'm wondering if it's okay to keep using the laptop plugged in for basic tasks like MS Word and Google Chrome while I figure out a replacement. I have some deadlines coming up and I'm starting to get anxious about it. Thanks for any help!

Yep, sounds like your battery is toast. You should be fine using it plugged in as long as you keep an eye on the temperature. If it gets hot or shows signs of bulging, that's when you should worry.
I had a laptop with a dead battery that I kept using for years. If there's no noticeable swelling (like the case breaking), you should be good to go.
Not sure if it's swelling, but I did notice both screws at the back have come out, and there's a little lifting near the charging port.
Thanks for the tip! It does get warm, so I use a laptop stand to help with the heat.
