Is It Safe to Use the Chipset Slot for My Samsung SSD?

Hey folks! I'm not super knowledgeable about building PCs, but I have a question about where to install my new Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2TB SSD. My motherboard is an MSI Z690-A Pro DDR4, and I've already got one SSD in the CPU slot. I want to use the Samsung SSD for gaming, so can I put it in a slot that connects to the chipset? I've seen different information online and I really want to avoid making any mistakes that could harm my computer. Also, I've heard that the Samsung SSD doesn't require a heatsink—anyone know if that's accurate? Any help would be awesome!

Yes, you can definitely use any other NVMe slot, including the one that hooks up to the chipset, and there’s no need for a heatsink on that Samsung SSD. It's safe to install it there!

Thanks for clarifying! Are there any downsides to using the chipset slot, or is the performance difference pretty negligible?
