I've built my first PC on a budget, and it's been about two years since then. Here are my specs:
- **Storage**: 238 GB (189 GB used)
- **Graphics Card**: 496 MB AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics
- **Installed RAM**: 64.0 GB at 3200 MHz
- **Processor**: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon Graphics running at 3.90 GHz.
I mainly use Chrome for writing and studying, along with programs like DBeaver and Visual Studio Code since I'm a first-year computer science student. I went with a lot of RAM to avoid lag while running my code and online tools. Recently, Chrome has been freezing occasionally.
I'm considering whether I should upgrade my processor or make other changes to improve performance. Would an upgrade be worth it? If so, what mid-range CPU options would you recommend?

Since you're not gaming, it’s tough to say whether you need a CPU upgrade right now. If you want more power for compiling, a Ryzen 5900X could be a solid choice, just remember you'd need to get a new cooler for it too. But I'd be cautious—if your boot drive is nearly full, that might be causing your freezing problems. Upgrading to a bigger SSD could help more than a CPU right now!
Thanks for the detailed insights! I'm definitely going to look into clearing up my boot drive and learn more about virtual memory and page files. I'll also be getting an SSD soon.
