I'm currently running an Intel Core i7-2600, but it doesn't perform as well as it used to. I'm considering upgrading, but I'm not sure if it's worth it or what I should upgrade to without breaking the bank. I'm open to any affordable suggestions!

First off, is your machine a branded one like Dell or HP? Also, how much money are you willing to spend? It's good to know your goals for the upgrade too, like gaming or just general use. If you send me your parts list, that would help a lot!
Even the top upgrade for that motherboard is pretty outdated by today’s standards. You'll need a fresh CPU, motherboard, and RAM to get decent performance nowadays.
To be honest, you'll likely need a new CPU, motherboard, and RAM to really see a performance boost. Depending on your budget, you should expect to spend at least $200 minimum.
If your motherboard supports it, the best upgrade you could make with just a CPU swap is the i7-3770K. Just check your motherboard and BIOS for compatibility. If you want to upgrade beyond that, prepare to spend over $500 for a new CPU, motherboard, and RAM.
If your motherboard is from the Sandy Bridge era, you're pretty much out of luck for CPU upgrades. But if it's Ivy Bridge, then the 3rd Gen CPUs are an option. What's the make and model of your motherboard?

I don't really know much about my parts. Can I post a picture of them? Would that help?
