Is It Worth Adding Multiple Access Points for Remote Work Security?

Hey everyone! I just switched to a hybrid work model and I'm trying to enhance my home network's security. My workplace relies on a VPN, Remote Desktop, and Microsoft 365 for remote tasks, and I have a 2Gig Verizon Fios internet connection. I'm considering whether it would be beneficial to set up an additional router to create a second access point specifically for work, and I'm also thinking about this in relation to a baby camera I might set up in the future. Can I have multiple access points with my existing internet service? Will this improve my network security or should I focus on securing my current setup instead?

I think having more access points can help, especially if you're working from home with multiple devices. Just make sure each access point is properly secured. And they can help with signal strength, but don't expect a major boost in security. Focus on securing your current network first.

I have several access points myself, and while they do help with coverage, it's crucial to consider the security aspect. If your main concern is network security, tweaking your current setup could be more effective than just adding more pieces. Think about what specific security threats you want to guard against.

Yes, you can definitely add multiple access points. They can improve Wi-Fi coverage and help manage multiple devices better. However, adding access points won’t significantly enhance your network's security. For security, it's more about how you configure your existing setup and what measures you take—like using strong passwords and regular updates.
