Is It Worth Buying a Broken Gigabyte Aorus Laptop?

I came across a Gigabyte Aorus 15P XD on Facebook Marketplace for $175. The seller claims the fans and keyboard RGB work, but there's no display output on the laptop screen, and it doesn't work with external monitors either. I'm curious about what kind of issues I might be facing if I buy it and if there's any chance of repairing it. Also, if repairs aren't feasible, can I salvage some usable parts from it? I'm currently discussing it with the seller to see if we can diagnose the problem further. Thanks for any insights!

The worst-case scenario definitely involves the GPU, but it could also just be the RAM that needs reseating or replacing. I’ve had luck fixing similar issues by clearing the CMOS, so it might be worth a shot. For $175, it’s a gamble, but you might luck out!

From what you described, it sounds like the GPU might be dead. Repairing that would involve serious work like desoldering parts, which isn’t cost-effective. Plus, this model is discontinued so finding replacement parts could be a hassle.

Is there a way to get the seller to test the GPU specifically before I commit to buying?

Honestly, I wouldn’t spend $175 on a non-working laptop. It just seems risky, especially with how tricky repairs can get. You might want to consider saving up a bit more for something that actually works, unless you’re up for a challenge.

I get that, but if you can fix it, a high-end laptop for $175 plus repairs could be a great deal!
