I recently had a problem with my laptop charger, which caused my battery to die right in the middle of a Windows update. I suspect the charger I was using had a short since it would occasionally show it was charging when it wasn't. Now I'm stuck wondering if I should spend $100 on a new charging block or if the laptop might be bricked. I'm currently living paycheck to paycheck, so I'd prefer not to throw money at a possible lost cause, but given that my laptop was an expensive investment, I feel it would be silly not to at least try to fix it. What do you think?

If you're sure the charger was the issue, there's a good chance your laptop is fine. It mostly depends on how it reacts to being powered back on after the update failure. Also, don’t hesitate to check thrift stores for a charger or consider universal chargers that match the specs. Just make sure it's compatible!
Just keep in mind, while the charger is likely the main issue, there could be other damage. It's smart to test your battery first, but if you've already replaced it once, it might indicate an underlying problem. If you can, try to test that before investing in a new charger.
I think you should be okay since most laptops can recover even after a battery dies during an update. If it doesn't boot up correctly, resetting Windows usually fixes the issues. You could also look into options like USB-C charging if your laptop has that capability—might save you some cash.
Thanks! I was not aware of USB-C charging options, I’ll definitely check if my laptop supports it.
Thanks for the tips! I have an Alienware laptop, and I'm worried about finding a compatible charger.
