Is it worth selling my RTX 4090 to upgrade to a 5080?

I've noticed that my friends with the RTX 5080 are getting significantly better frame rates than I am on my 4090, even though we're gaming at the same resolutions and settings. I don't do any 3D modeling or run machine learning locally, so I'm wondering if I should just sell my 4090 and switch to a 5080. Is there any reason I should keep the 4090? I know it has more VRAM, but if my frame rates are consistently lower than what I'm seeing from friends, what should matter more? I've read about FPS lows and similar metrics, but honestly, their setups feel smooth with no noticeable input lag. Am I missing something in my decision, or should I make the switch?

At this point, I wouldn't recommend switching. The price of the 5080 has inflated quite a bit, so you might not save as much as you think. Plus, if your friends are beating your 4090 in frame rates, they might be using more aggressive DLSS settings or have better CPUs than you. Your CPU really plays a big role here.

Yeah, I've noticed they tend to use some performance-boosting features. But most of their CPUs aren't that high-end either. One guy is just a generation up from mine.
