I recently bought a CPU, the 9900X, but now the store is offering me a trade: I can give them my 9900X along with an additional $50 and get a 9800X3D instead. I mainly use my PC for gaming and some schoolwork, paired with a 5080 graphics card. Should I go for this deal, or is it not really a worthwhile upgrade?

I've seen similar trades here in Australia where a swap is totally worth it. If the price difference is close to $100 US, then that $50 trade sounds like a smart move.
Absolutely, you should take the deal! Unless your schoolwork demands heavy processing that benefits from the 12 cores of the 9900X, the 9800X3D is better suited for gaming performance. The prices seem fair too, so it’s a win-win!
Depends on what tasks you are handling. For gaming and straightforward tasks, the 9800X3D will outperform the 9900X. However, for very multithreaded workloads, the latter might still have the edge. But for gaming? Definitely get the 9800X3D!
Is this really a good deal, though? Just curious why they are pushing for this swap.
I actually called them out since they sold me the 9900X claiming it was far better, so I think they’re just trying to fix their mistake by offering the trade.
