I've been using my i7 12700k setup with an RTX 4070 Super and 32GB of DDR5 RAM for about three years now. Recently, I've noticed that my current GPU is struggling to keep stable frame rates at ultra settings in new games while running at 1440p. I'm thinking about upgrading to a 5080 for better performance, maybe even for 4K gaming. The 4070 Super cost me $850, while the 5080 is around $1500. What do you guys think? Is it a good choice?

Upgrading to the 5080 gives you a huge boost, especially for AI tasks in games. That's where you'll see a real increase in performance!

I can still run most games at 1440p with my 4070, and my frame rates are pretty solid. Just depends on what you're looking for.

I’m aiming for 90 to 120 fps on story games at high settings.

You might not need to upgrade at all! Many people say playing on ultra isn't necessary. If you switch to high settings, you might get similar performance without spending a fortune on a new card.

True, and a lot of games are poorly optimized, which eats up VRAM!

If you can afford it, go for it! The performance jump is significant. The 5070 Ti is also a good option if you're mainly gaming at 1440p.

Honestly, unless you're made of money, it’s probably not necessary. Just tweak some settings instead. I'm using a 3080 and don’t feel the need to upgrade just yet.

If you can afford it and want it, then go for it. But if you're tight on cash, better save first and reconsider. It's a subjective choice!

Yeah, I definitely need to save up for it.

Upgrading from a 4070 to a 5070 Ti has been great for me! I can handle 4K gaming with some DLSS help. Just make sure your CPU and PSU can handle the upgrade, and you should be fine.

Shouldn't I have any problems with my current CPU and PSU for the upgrade?
