Is it worth upgrading from DDR5 5600MHz to 6000MHz RAM?

I've recently purchased a pre-built PC that comes with an RTX 5080 and an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D. They skimped on the RAM, equipping it with only 32GB of Patriot DDR5 5600MHz CL46. I'm considering upgrading to a pre-owned kit of 6000MHz CL30 RAM from eBay. If I sell my current RAM, I'd lose about $50 to $100. Given that I mainly game at 4K and focus on single-player titles, would this upgrade be worth the performance boost? I've heard mixed opinions about whether RAM speed matters for X3D CPUs, particularly since people say 5600MHz CL46 is quite slow. What's the consensus?

Upgrading might not provide significant benefits for your gaming needs. The X3D CPUs don't really care about RAM speed, and at 5600MHz, you're not losing out much. In fact, your performance might only drop a little in CPU-heavy scenarios, but overall, you should be fine for 4K gaming.

Thanks for the insight! Sounds like I might just stick with what I have for now.

If you're primarily gaming at 4K, the difference in RAM speeds is negligible. You could benchmark against similar setups, but a slight FPS increase (like 2-3 FPS) probably won't justify the cost.

Honestly, now's not really the best time to think about buying RAM. Prices are high and you might regret it later, especially since your current RAM still does a pretty good job with your setup.

Yeah, I hear you! I'm just worried that if I wait too long, the prices will keep going up!

You don’t need to upgrade right now. Your 32GB is sufficient, especially with your X3D CPU. The performance difference with faster RAM might not be noticeable unless you're pushing very high frame rates in demanding games.

That aligns with what many are saying, thanks for confirming!

In this market, it's not worth it—stick with your current RAM until prices drop. Upgrading to faster RAM isn’t going to give you a game-changing experience, especially since you've already got decent hardware.
