Is it worth upgrading my motherboard for overclocking?

I'm considering whether I should upgrade my motherboard. Currently, I have an Intel i7 9700K CPU, a B360M H motherboard, 16GB of dual-channel RAM (1330MHz, but it should be 2666MHz), and an RX 6800 GPU. While I can play games at 1440p without issues, I'm noticing my CPU is starting to lag behind, especially in CPU-intensive games or when working with large scenes in Blender. I was thinking about upgrading to the MSI MPG Z390 GAMING PLUS motherboard to unlock overclocking for my CPU. However, with current RAM prices being so high, I'm rethinking if this upgrade would even be worthwhile. What do you guys think?

Upgrading just for overclocking might not give you the best bang for your buck. The improvements in FPS are usually minor compared to the cost involved. You may not even notice the difference in most gaming scenarios.

Have you thought about upgrading your RAM or GPU instead? Your current RAM isn't being fully utilized with just 16GB, and your GPU is still strong for 1440p games. It seems like your CPU could be the bottleneck in some instances, so maybe investing elsewhere would be smarter.

Exactly! Upgrading RAM to 32GB could give you a better performance range. If you wait for a deal on AM5 or similar, that could be a more meaningful upgrade in the long run, especially if you keep your GPU.
