I've been using a 550W generic power supply with an 80+ rating for about a month. My PC specs include an RX 580 and an R5 3500X. I'm considering upgrading to a Darkflash GS650, which is a C-tier PSU according to the SPL tier list, and it's modular for only $40. Are there any better power supply options available for under $45?

I'd stick with what you have for now. The RX 580 shouldn't cause any issues with your current PSU. Just remember that the Inplay GS550 has a bad reputation for exploding, so keep an eye on it!
It's probably best to hold off upgrading until you decide to upgrade your GPU. If you plan on keeping your setup as is for a while longer, your PSU should be fine for now.
Honestly, you might be fine sticking with your current PSU for now. Unless you plan to upgrade more hardware that requires a better power supply, there probably won't be a noticeable difference in performance. Just hold off until you really need it.
I say go for it! The Darkflash GS650 is modular and at $40, it’s a solid choice. Since your PC isn't super power-hungry, this PSU should give you some room to upgrade in the future without a hitch.
