Is it worth upgrading to AM5 for £200-400?

I'm considering whether I should upgrade my current AM4 build to an AM5 setup. The main components I'd need to replace are the CPU, motherboard, and RAM, as the rest of my setup is relatively new (under a year old). I think I could sell my current CPU for around £150, the motherboard for about £75, and the RAM for another £75, which totals around £300 back into my budget. This means I'd be looking at a real cost of roughly £200-400 for new parts. My upgrade options include a 9800X3D for about £400 or a 9600X for around £170, plus 32GB of DDR5 RAM (6000Mhz, £120) and an X670 motherboard (£200). Here are my current build specs: [PCPartPicker Part List](https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/m243xg). What do you all think?

You might want to sell your AM4 components while they still have decent resale value. Many do that with GPUs when upgrading. Just make sure you really need the upgrade; your current setup is likely good for a few years still. If you put that budget into a 1440p monitor instead, you'll see a bigger difference until next-gen GPUs come out.

I actually have a 1440p monitor, the Samsung Odyssey G5! So I guess I’ll wait it out for AM6.

Consider getting a 4K monitor if you can save up for AM6. Your 5070 Ti should handle 4K gaming pretty well with some settings adjusted. The gaming performance difference from DDR4 to 5 is minimal, and a 4K upgrade would be huge!

Honestly, unless you're really chasing higher frame rates, I'd probably stick with your current build for a bit longer. It seems pretty solid still!

Thanks for the input! I might hold off on upgrading and wait for AM6 to see what’s out by then.

Given you're already using an x3d chip, it might be better to save your money and wait for AM6. The performance jump to a 9800x3d isn't that massive at 1440p, and for that price range, I wouldn’t go for it unless there's a compelling reason.
