Is it Worth Upgrading to an NVIDIA GPU for Gaming and AI?

I'm currently gaming with titles like Rocket League, Assetto Corsa, and BeamNG, and I've also started dabbling in some AI projects—like chatbot interactions with Kobold and SillyTavern, plus image generation with ComfyUI and ZLUDA. Getting everything set up was quite the challenge, and I've noticed that for Text-to-Speech (TTS) applications, there aren't many good options for AMD cards. As a mainly casual gamer who enjoys these AI projects for fun, I'm considering whether it's worth trading in my RX 6600 XT for an NVIDIA card, such as a 3060. If you have any suggestions for reasonably priced NVIDIA GPUs, I'm all ears! Also, if there are others who once found AI as fascinating as I do—are you still engaged in it, or have you moved on to other interests? My current specs include an RX 6600 XT, an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X CPU, and I'm running Windows 10 on an LG 27GQ50F monitor.

If you switch to a 3060, you'd lose FreeSync support, and you'd be looking at about a 10% drop in gaming performance. So, while the NVIDIA card might be better for AI software, think about whether that trade-off is worth it for your gaming experience. Also, not all AI software runs smoothly on older mid-range GPUs, so that's something to keep in mind.

FreeSync works with NVIDIA cards too, so that's a plus! Just something to consider.

You might want to check out Techpowerup's GPU comparison charts; they'll help you see how your RX 6600 XT stacks up against other GPUs. Just so you know, the 6600 XT actually performs better than the regular 3060, so switching to that could be a downgrade for gaming. But if you're really focused on AI, it's worth looking into NVIDIA's offerings for that task specifically.
