I'm a Plus subscriber and I've had the chance to experiment with GPT-4.5 for only a few prompts. I fed it an intricate novel plot along with detailed character backstories and asked it to draft the first chapter. The outcome was so impressive that it brought tears to my eyes, especially when compared to GPT-4, which I find pretty underwhelming. Now, I'm considering whether upgrading to Pro to access GPT-4.5 is worth the $200, but that's quite a bit of money for me. Also, I'm not writing in English. Do you have any recommendations?

Just a heads up, I've heard they’re planning to unplug 4.5 soon, so if you want to get your novel done, the time might be now!
I think it’s tied to its performance on the API, but it hasn’t been announced for other platforms yet.
I've been using GPT-4.5 a lot as a Pro user, and I think it's a step up. It does have some issues with images and can be a bit slower, but overall, it's definitely smarter and gives more balanced opinions. I’d say it’s my favorite model right now. Just be aware it may have some quirks!
What's the rate limit for Pro users on 4.5?
I've also been impressed with Gemini 2.5 for writing long stories. Just keep in mind that there's a lot of buzz around these models, and make sure to choose what works for you. Each has its strengths!
I recently tried Gemini but had mixed results. What do you think it does better?
If you’re serious about writing, I say go for it! The quality of the model is worth it, especially since I've never hit any limits with my writing while using it.
You might want to try the API at platform.openai.com instead. It doesn't require much technical ability and while the interface isn’t the fanciest, it offers more control. Plus, you only pay for what you use, which can save you money if you're not sure how often you’ll use it. You can test it out without upfront costs!
Is the API really that different from the subscription? What do you like about it?
Why are they discontinuing it, though?
