Is It Worth Upgrading to Ryzen 7 7800X3D or 9800X3D for 1080P Gaming?

Hey everyone! I currently have a Ryzen 5 8600G paired with a 12GB RTX 3060 Dual OC, which I got when I built my PC last year. I'm primarily playing games at 1080P, but I plan to upgrade to a 1440p monitor later on. Now, I'm considering upgrading my CPU, and I'm torn between the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. The 9800X3D costs about £80 more, so I'm wondering if that extra money is justified. Here's a list of some games I'm currently playing: Space Marine II, Battlefield 2042, GTA V, Forza Horizon 5, Escape from Tarkov (SPT Zombie Mod), Star Wars Outlaws, Hogwarts Legacy, and Outlast Trials. Would love to hear your thoughts!

You might want to hold off on a CPU upgrade for now. Your RTX 3060 won’t fully utilize the Ryzen 7800X3D or the 9800X3D, making them somewhat unnecessary. They could offer a slight performance boost, but it might not be worth the cash given that your current GPU is the limiting factor. If you're planning on grabbing a new GPU, you might want to prioritize that instead. Just my two cents!

That's true! I suggest keeping an eye on future GPU releases before upgrading the CPU.

Exactly! Save that money for a stronger GPU and skip an expensive CPU for now.

Honestly, if you're mostly playing games like Tarkov, the 9800X3D would offer you better performance. But if you don’t usually play CPU-demanding games, the 7800X3D should be more than capable. I think you should focus on what games you play most often when deciding. Just my thoughts!

If Tarkov is your main game, then maybe the 9800X3D is worth it after all!

Tarkov does favor the higher-end CPUs, so I see where you’re coming from!

If you have the budget, I say go for the 9800X3D. It’s a solid future-proofing option, especially if you’re considering that 1440p upgrade. But, if your funds are tight, the 7800X3D is still a fantastic choice without breaking the bank. Just make sure you save some cash for that new GPU too!

Yeah, definitely worth considering future games, but don’t forget to look at your GPU options!

Future-proofing is key! Just keep in mind, your GPU will need the upgrade too.

In my honest opinion, upgrading from the 8600G to either the 7800X3D or 9800X3D might not give you the performance you expect at 1080p. The 9800X3D only gives about an 11% boost in performance, so unless you’re frequently playing CPU-heavy games, it's better to save that cash for a future GPU upgrade. If you find a good deal on the 7800X3D, go for it, but the 9800X3D may not be worth it right now.

Right, especially for games that aren't as CPU-intensive! Better to invest wisely.

So true! Focus on your GPU upgrade first, especially since you're looking at 1440p soon.
